Although I've read all the posts in this blog back to 2005, there wasn't one mentioning this video of the full 1967 Copenhagen performance. (One mentioned a clip of one of the songs.)

This was posted to the "Tom Lehrer" channel on Youtube back in August.

Lots of good stuff here.  It is a fifty minute video, and at the precise halfway point (25:00) he provides what I'll call Aristotle's version of "The Element Song".

(Again, sorry if this is already common knowledge) Excellent video and audio, and a good performance.

Have been trying to finish it for a year now, but the life took over... so it is not exactly as I wanted it to be.

The Piano, tired of Tom Lehrer's violent manner, is dreaming of calmer pieces to play (like Bach)... So he (it?) and friends plot a revenge.

Full picture, a HUGE one - in my journal
...was posted about a month ago to YouTube. I'd forgotten that some of these songs were his (since over half of his songs on the show were not sung by Himself) and was happy to see these. As I don't see any mention of them in the community, I'm posting the link as a public service.

Tom Lehrer songs for The Electric Company -- pretty decent quality video. Enjoy!
Three things you can celebrate by singing along to Tom Lehrer and the YouTubers:

The spring

Tom Lehrer´s birthday on April 9

The release of The Tom Lehrer Collection on April 13

And neither could I, for that matter:

Spread the word to friends and/or enemies, also outside of this community! I'm still just the enthusiast here, but this time Americans should get those discs and preserve this guy ;D

Words of Wisdom from my #2 hero, Tom Lehrer

"What is it that put America in the forefront of the nuclear nations?

And what is it that will make it possible
to spend twenty billion dollars of your money
to put some clown on the moon?

Well, it was Good Old American Know-How, that's what!
As provided by good old Americans
like Dr. Wernher von Braun..."

Music Notes Don't say that he's hypocritical,
Say, rather, that he's apolitical.

"Vunce ze rockets are up, who cares where zey come down?
Zat's not my department!" says Wernher von Braun.

~ from the LP That Was The Year That Was (1965)

Here is a wonderful video of that entire song, broadcast in 1967...Collapse )
